Please come to the first class with good understanding of the course objectives, learning activities, and course outcomes by reviewing the syllabus. COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course consists of seminar and practicum on the topic of gaining financial support for research and/or demonstration projects in nursing and health care related areas. Students analyze the funding criteria of various agencies and techniques of strategic communication. Students project budget development and packaging of ideas as information basic to creating successful proposals Using a research or demonstration project with which he/she is familiar, the student creates a funding proposal and participates in critiques of colleagues' proposals.

CREDIT AND TIME ALLOCATION

3 semester hours
(2 semester hours seminar, 1 hour practicum)

Year 02 Doctoral students

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing Program students will:

  1. Advance the discipline of nursing through the generation of new knowledge and theory.
  2. Demonstrate excellence as a clinical researcher in the health sciences in a focal area of nursing.
  3. Synthesize theories from natural and/or behavioral sciences for application to a specified area of nursing.
  4. Advance evidence-based clinical practice.
  5. Assume nurse scientist roles within academic health centers and other health centers and other interdisciplinary health sciences and educational institutions.
  6. Evaluate the value and knowlege components of philosophical and ethical dimensions of issues confronting healthcare and nursing.

COURSE OUTCOMES

1. Select a suitable funding source for a research or demonstration project.
2. Develop a proposal suitable for submission to the target-funding source.
3. Analyze potential effects of political, grammatical, and aesthetic variables on the consideration of the proposals.
4. Assemble a catalog of organizations support services, which facilitate the development and implementation of funded projects.
5. Demonstrate understanding of the various levels of review and consideration to which a grant proposal is subjected, depending on the target agency.
6. Critique proposals to target agencies that fund research and/or demonstration projects in nursing and health care.

A = 4 points (90-100)
B = 3 points (80-89)
C = 2 points (75-79)
D = 1 point (66-74)
F = 0 points (65 or below)

"Scholastic dishonesty includes but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, collusion, and submission for credit of any work or materials that are attributable in whole or in part to another person, taking an examination for another person, any act designed to give unfair advantage to a student or the attempt to commit such acts." Regents Rules and Regulations, Part One, Chapter VI, Section 3, Subsection 3.2, Subdivision 3.22.
