Community Nurse Leader Criteria

Purpose: To recognize leadership, creative work, support for professional standards and commitment to scholarly nursing. This is the only category that does not have achievement in academic scholarship as a criterion, but rather emphasizes all other areas related to the purposes of Sigma Theta Tau International.
Criteria
- Minimum of a baccalaureate degree
- Demonstrated marked achievement in nursing education, practice, research, administration or publication
- Generic graduates are given five years to develop as community leaders after receipt of the first professional nursing degree
Achievement Areas
Areas in which excellence of community leaders is demonstrated. Community leaders must demonstrate achievement and have consistently excelled in at least one of the following areas: education, practice, research, administration or publication.
- Examples of Achievement in Education (may be demonstrated in one or more of the following ways).
- Achievement in teaching
- Achievement in curriculum development
- Achievement in course development
- Achievement in evaluation process
- Achievement in administration in education
- Achievement in post graduate education
- Examples of Achievement in Practice (may be demonstrated in one or more of the following ways).
- Outstanding clinician in field as documented by peers and others
- Outstanding contributor to improvement of the status of professional nursing through leadership in professional nursing organizations
- Examples of Achievement in Research (may be demonstrated in one or more of the following ways).
- Achievement in research in practice, teaching or administration
- Conducting of outstanding research as documented by peer researchers and nurse colleagues
- Achievement in Administration (may be demonstrated in one or more of the following ways).
- Outstanding administrator in nursing service as documented by peers and others
- Outstanding contributor to improvement of health care through leadership in nursing service
- Achievement in staff development by creating a climate for nurses to practice professional nursing
- Achievement in Publication (may be demonstrated in one or more of the following ways).
- Contribution to the knowledge of nursing through publication of books, articles, research reports, news media, etc.
- Recognition by peers and nurse colleagues for nursing publications
- Achievement in other category (may be demonstrated in one or more of the following ways).
- Outstanding consultant in field of nursing as documented by peers and others
- Outstanding contribution to nursing as entrepreneur
