What does the Student Health Fee pay for?

The student fees support the infrastructure of the Student Health Clinic (Room 1.422 Nursing Building) including TB Evaluation (should the student have a positive PPD), equipment and supplies, salaries of front office staff, medical assistant, and administrative overhead to include clinic director, clinic manager and collaborating physicians. The Student Health Fee also provides for a host of Counseling Services (Room 101 F MED) provided by a multidisciplinary staff of psychologists, psychiatrists and residents.

Will I have to pay when I go to the SHC?

Advanced Practice Nursing (nurse practitioner) and Registered Nursing (RN) care is funded through third party billing and relevant co-payments. Your co-payment, as determined by your insurance carrier, is all that you (the student) will pay at the SHC.

Will I have to pay for labs, x-rays, or medical equipment ordered by the provider?

Yes. Charges incurred by lab services, radiology services, prescription and/or over the counter medications, or any medical equipment prescribed, are the responsibility of the student. Onsite laboratory services will be provided during summer 2011.

Do I have to pay for needlestick visits and medications?

Yes. Please keep all receipts and explanation of benefits (EOBs) from your insurance carrier. UTHSCSA reimburses up to $500.00 per incident.

Does the United Healthcare Student Resource insurance cover immunizations?
