The School of Nursing is part of a large internationally recognized academic health center, and the development of knowledge to improve clinical practice and human health is a high priority. Research priorities at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Nursing are those directed at reducing health disparities. There is a visible rise in the research and scholarship at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Nursing, in part due to the identification of research strengths and collaborative efforts, the talent pool extant within the faculty and the expansion of the research infrastructure.

Faculty and Doctoral students received over $1.5 million in research funding for the FY 2005-2006. Additionally, the faculty of the School of Nursing, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio have established national and international reputations in their respective research areas, as seen in the scholarly activities in peer reviewed journals, see Faculty Publications. 

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio offers an exceptional research and educational environment, with five health science schools (Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Allied Health and the Graduate School of Biomedical Science). See Research Environment.

To facilitate faculty and doctoral student research endeavors, the Office of Nursing Research provides services that include consultation in research design and statistical analysis, data management, preparation of research proposals and grants, editorial assistance with grants and manuscripts, and assistance with funding resources.
