NURS 5338 Pathophysiology for Advanced Practice Nurses
This course focuses on pathophysiological processes across the lifespan. The relationship between normal physiology and specific system alterations produced by disease will be explored. Particular attention will be given to etiology, pathogenesis, developmental and environmental influences, and clinical manifestations of major health problems. Portions of this course will be delivered by distance technology. Independent completion of modules is required in this course.
CREDIT AND TIME ALLOCATION
3 semester hours class (3 clock hours per week)
Masters level knowledge of physiology is expected.
- Apply knowledge of normal physiological processes across the life span as a basis for understanding adaptive and pathological changes in organ systems that underlie clinical manifestations of disorders and diseases encountered in advanced clinical practice.
- Apply knowledge of physiological alterations and pathophysiological processes to disorders and diseases manifested across the life span.
- Discuss current research in pathophysiology related to select patient case studies of pathophysiological processes across the lifespan.
- Describe the relevant findings of diagnostic or other evaluative studies as they relate to pathophysiological processes.
- Apply knowledge about pathophysiological processes to clinical reasoning in advanced practice nursing.
Attendance in class is an expectation of each student.
- If written assignments are made in a course they are required.
- Students are expected to submit written work on the scheduled date and time.
- The student must notify the course coordinator prior to the scheduled due date and time if they are unable to submit the written work as scheduled. Failure to make this notification in advance will result in a "zero" for that written work.
- If the excuse is accepted as reasonable and necessary, arrangements will be made for an alternative due date and time.
- Each student is responsible for making sure that he or she has completed the written work prior to submission.
- Late work will be accepted with consequences as outlined per course syllabi.
The APA Publication Manual 6th edition is required for use in all nursing school programs.
