This major focuses on administrative leadership and management within our emerging integrated healthcare system. The roles of the nurse manager and administrator are experienced through course work, use of computer software germane to healthcare, and practicums in a chosen setting (e.g. hospitals, home health agencies, health departments, community-based primary care centers, clinics, case management organizations) depending on availability and your previous experience.
You will develop knowledge and skills related to marketing, community focused planning, problems-solving, finance, organizational theory, policy making, and assessment of populations through classroom and hands-on experiences in clinical agencies.

Prerequisites: NURS 5311
This course and practicum provide an opportunity to explore problems that affect client population aggregates in a variety of health care settings. The emphasis of this course is program planning and evaluation. Using analytical and problem solving skills, processes, strategies, and evidenced based practice, students will be given the opportunity to develop theory-based interventions and evaluation strategies. Credit Hour Allocation:
- 5 semester hrs
- 3 semester hours class = 3 clock hours class (45 clock hours class)

Prerequisites: NURS 5226
This course considers advanced financial management concepts (financial statements, capital budgeting, forecasting, rate setting, costing out of nursing services) and an introduction to the concepts of decision support systems in the administration of community and health care services. The purpose of this course is to provide the student with the opportunity to examine the role of the nurse executive in a health care agency. Emphasis is placed on the development of interdisciplinary relationships, long-range planning skills, organizational priority setting, fiscal management, marketing, policy setting, care systems and support systems for patient care delivery. The student will be assigned to an institutional or community-based health care setting under the preceptorship of an experienced nurse executive for the practicum portion of the course.
