Program Goal: The exchange of knowledge, expertise, research, challenges & successes in addressing issues related to health disparities affected by the Affordable Care Act; Strategies for recruiting minorities into health professions. Importance of health literacy and providing culturally proficient interdisciplinary health care.

Target Audience: Physician, social worker, nurse, healthcare provider, educator, and student.

Conference Objectives:

  • Describe how the Affordable Care Act will influence life expectancy among racial and ethnic minorities and low income populations
  • Discuss innovative strategies that address the need to increase minorities in health professions with a goal of eliminating health disparities in racial and ethnic minorities
  • Describe health literacy implications for health care reform
  • Discuss ways to provide interdisciplinary culturally proficient healthcare to a diverse population
