Nursing Advisory Council Awards
The School of Nursing would like to congratulate the following faculty on being awarded the NAC Spring 2017 scholarship towards research and scholarship. Congratulations to all these faculty who worked hard developing a research proposal and will continue to contribute to their scholarship and to nursing knowledge. Accepted Abstracts, Poster & Panel Presentations

Rebecca Bonugli, PhD, RN, PMHCNS was accepted for a poster presentation at the Southern Nursing Research Society's 2017 Annual Conference, Dallas, TX, this past February 2017. Dr. Bonugli has been invited to present "The Maternal Opioid Morbidity Study (MOMS)" at the Sigma Theta Tau International's 28th International Nursing Research Congress, in Dublin, Ireland July 2017 with colleagues.

Lisa Cleveland, PhD, RN, PNP-BC, IBCLC has been invited to discuss "Mothers and Infants Impacted by the Opioid Epidemic: A Call for Social Justice" at the Take Root conference in Norman, Oklahoma. Dr. Cleveland has been invited to present "An Interdisciplinary Collaborative to Improve Care and Outcomes for Mother-Infant Dyads Impacted by Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome" at The International Council of Nurses Congress in Barcelona May 2017. Dr. Cleveland, has been invited to present a poster on "Social Support, Stress, and Depressive Symptoms in Opioid Using Pregnant Women" at the Southern Nursing Research Society's 2017 Annual Conference, Dallas, TX, in February 2017. Dr. Cleveland, has been invited to present "Improving Nursing Care and Outcomes for Mother-Infant Dyads Impacted by Opioid Use Disorders" at the symposium presentation at the Sigma Theta Tau International's 28th International Nursing Research Congress, in Dublin, Ireland July 2017 with colleagues.

Kelly McGlothen, BSN, RN, IBCLC, IMH-E® (II), has been invited to discuss "Mothers and Infants Impacted by the Opioid Epidemic: A Call for Social Justice" at the Take Root conference in Norman, Oklahoma. Mrs. McGlothen, has also been invited to present "Improving Nursing Care and Outcomes for Mother-Infant Dyads Impacted by Opioid Use Disorders" at the symposium presentation at the Sigma Theta Tau International's 28th International Nursing Research Congress, in Dublin, Ireland July 2017 along with her mentor. Dr. Cleveland.

Karine Crow, PhD, RN, FAAN, abstract for Sigma Theta Tau International's 28th International Nursing Research Congress, "Enhancing a Community's Health through an Innovative Partnership with a Public Utility Company," has been selected for an oral presentation in Dublin, Ireland.

Bertha E. "Penny" Flores, PhD, RN, WHNP-BC Assistant Professor Texas Center for Health Disparities STAR Fellow John A. Hartford BAGNC Scholar, has been invited to participate in the 2017 Intersectional Qualitative Research Methods Institute (IQRMI) at the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP). This intensive week long institute will provide instruction in methodological skills, writing, and navigation of institutional norms.

Moonju Lee, PhD, RN, abstract "Experience of Cancer Screening and Healthcare Service Utilization of Korean Immigrant" was accepted to Western Institute of Nursing for a podium presentation at the Western Institute of Nursing's 50th Annual Communicating Nursing Research Conference to be held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver from April 19-22, 2017.  

Kathleen McCoy, DNSc, APRN, PMHNP-BC, PMHCNS-BC, FNP-BC, FAANP has been invited to participate as a Nurse Practitioner State Leader in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Annual Region 8 Invitational Leadership Meeting, May 6, Dallas TX. Dr. McCoy, presentation "Psychotropic Management in LTC: OBRA, Elders and Their Loved Ones" at The American Association of Nurse Practitioners 2017 National Conference, June 20-25, 2017 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. McCoy, Recently appointed as first Co-Chair of the American Association of Nurse Practitioner's Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) Specialty Practice Group (SPG) will be leading discussion together with her co-chair Kate Guggin Sheppard in PMH SPG Forum at The American Association of Nurse Practitioners 2017 National Conference, June 20-25, 2017 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Frank Puga, PhD, poster presentation of "The Impact of the Learning Environment on Nursing Student Success and Well-Being"  was accepted at the Southern Nursing Research Society's 2017 Annual Conference, Dallas, TX, in February 2017. Elesha Roberts, MSN, RN, poster presentations were accepted for Sigma Theta Tau international Delta Theta Chapter 2017 Nursing Research Symposium in Arlington, TX April 22nd, "How a Church-Based Peer Support Group helped to reduce Blood Pressure in a High Risk Population of African American Older Adults"; and International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) 2017 Conference in Washington, DC June 21st-24th,"The Use of the Promoting excellence & Reflective Learning in Simulation (PEARLS) Debriefing Method in an Undergraduate BSN Suicide Risk Assessment Simulation."
