"The Center works to promote healthy activities for women and children to overcome poverty and lack of resources to build healthier,
safer lives."
The health of women and children is often compromised by inadequate physical activity, poor nutrition, obesity, cardiovascular risk factors, sexual behaviors and access to relevant prevention programs. Health indicators of concern in San Antonio, South Texas and the United States reflect individual behaviors, social and environmental disparities, as well as system-wide inadequacies.

Children of DiversityAnd important aspect of improving community health andmeeting thegoals set out by Healthy People 2010 is removing barriers that prevent access to appropriate preventive care. In addition to research targeted at specific indicators, interventions are needed to address health promotion needs of women and children.
