Anita Thigpen Perry Endowment Post-Doctoral
Award for Nursing Research on Community Based Health Intervention in
Women and Children.
The School of Nursing has an Anita
Thigpen Perry Fellowship Award to support post-doctoral fellows in the
study of community based health intervention for women and children.
The goal of the award is to support
the study of Community Based Intervention Phenomena related to health
care issues in women and children. Fellows conduct a research study,
take course work in nursing and related fields, participate in activities
of interdisciplinary research centers, and develop a proposal for funding.
Postdoctoral awardees are linked with a faculty mentor who will actively
support the work of students.
For the postdoctoral fellow, this
an opportunity to go beyond doctoral coursework to develop the skills
to conduct complex intervention studies in prevention and management
of health risk conditions associated with interventions in women and
children that require an interdisciplinary perspective, sophisticated
analytic techniques, or novel conceptualizations. Fellows can choose
to focus on specific subpopulations, including specific ethnics/racial
groups, high-risk groups, or on specific points in the illness trajectory.
The awardee benefits include:
- Supervised training with ongoing
nursing intervention studies and studies of community based health intervention
with nationally known researchers who serve as mentors (a list of possible
mentors will be sent upon request and with all applications)
- Involvement with the activities
of the UTHSCSA-SON Centers of Excellence as well as the activities of
other UTHSCSA Centers.
- Annual stipend for two years,
amount varies based on length of time since completion of doctorate.
You are encouraged to apply for
a fellowship if your research interests are in the area of Community
Based Health Interventions in women and children. All applicants for
the postdoctoral fellowship program must have an earned doctorate from
a doctoral program in nursing or a related field prior to beginning
the fellowship.
Awardees will be strongly encouraged
to apply for individual NRSA's or other resources to provide additional
support for their continued study beyond this initial fellowship.
