The Department of Family Nursing Care is one of three nursing departments within the School of Nursing, which is one of the schools of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The other schools are the Medical, Dental, Allied Health, and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. This dynamic and growing campus gives students the opportunity to grow at every level of education.

The Department of Family Nursing Care supports faculty teaching in the areas of Family Nursing Care, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Psychiatric-Mental Health Care, as well as Gerontological, Family, Pediatric and Psych-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Programs. The department is responsible for three undergraduate, twenty masters, and one doctoral program courses. The Department Chair and faculty are supported by four staff, which includes an Administrator, two Administrative Assistants and one Accounting Coordinator. In addition to the 4 departmental support staff, there are 11 additional staff members supporting funded projects including Juntos Podemos and Avanzar, directed by Norma Martinez-Rogers, RN, PhD, FAAN; Familias en Accion, directed by Janna Lesser, RN, PhD and the Avante' Clinic/Project Image and Center for Community Based Health Promotion in Women and Children directed by Jane Champion, RN, PhD, FAAN.
