NURS 4214 The Nurse as Professional: Research

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The role of research in the conduct of professional nursing is examined. Classroom discussions and learning experiences focus on the value of research based knowledge as a means to promote quality patient care. The research process provides content for evaluating quality and/or usefulness of research utilization/evidence based practice in development of nursing intervention strategies.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. Employ research findings to customize application of the nursing process.
  2. Apply the steps in the research process to support customized therapeutic care to promote, protect,  and restore health for patients.
  3. Demonstrate critical thinking in evaluating the usefulness of research studies in clinical practice.
  4. Describe the role of research on the practice of professional nursing practice.
  5. Describe the role of the professional nurse in knowledge generation.
  6. Discuss the role of nurses in the ethical and legal conduct of research.
  7. Incorporate research/nursing science into continuing professional development
