The Importance of Endowments
Within the UTHSCSA School of Nursing, we are working to build our endowment to help offset the ever increasing cost of recruiting
and maintaining faculty.

The healthcare and bioscience industry has an economic impact in San Antonio of $11.5 billion and in-hospital care has a total economic impact of $2.48 billion. Since hospitals are the major component of the San Antonio healthcare economy and nurses represent the single largest group of healthcare providers, without nurses hospitals close.
The establishment of an Endowed Appointment assists the School of Nursing in recruiting top nurse educators and scientists who in turn attract and mentor younger faculty seeking the experience of working with the nation’s best.
It has been said, “A great faculty attracts outstanding students; in turn, superb students challenge and inspire the best faculty.”
The expansion of our faculty is crucial, and in a competitive marketplace, Endowed Appointments are essential to hiring and retaining top teachers. Last fall, our highly regarded and accredited school turned away 250 qualified applicants because of budget restraints and lack of qualified faculty. This statistic is tragic when increasing educational capacity is pivotal to solving the nursing shortage from the supply side.
