Hello Fellow Alumni !

Sometimes life becomes so hectic we forget to take time to celebrate ourselves. That is what the UTHSCSA SON Advisory Alumni Council is all about, a celebration of each graduate of the School of Nursing.  I have the honor of serving as the Chair of the AAC, and we certainly have had a busy year, we have made many changes and accomplished a great deal in a short amount of time.  Let me reintroduce the Advisory Alumni Council to you! 

Every individual who has graduated from the UTHSCSA School of Nursing is considered an active member. That is over 7000 fellow nurses serving in communities throughout Texas, the nation (indeed the world, with many alumni serving in the Armed Services).  There are no member dues, so even if you have been out of touch with us for a while, you are still an active member.  The AAC meets 4 times a year, and besides enjoying each other’s company, we continue the founding mission of the Council; promoting the School of Nursing by assisting in student learning and growth, maintaining communication between the alumni and the school, promoting involvement of the alumni, and initiating and participating in fundraisers.  This past March the AAC sponsored a “phonathon” to reach out to our fellow alumni. We wanted to say hello and share with fellow alumnus what is new at the school.  We contacted over 600, and what a wonderful opportunity it was for us to meet new friends and reconnect with those we had not heard from in a while.  The best part of all was hearing how each of you are still involved in nursing. 

Whether in nursing leadership, education, at the bedside, taking time out for family, or even retired, the School of Nursing remains a big part of your present.  The AAC continues to provide scholarships to deserving students in all of our nursing programs, awards Leadership Service Awards to outstanding students, and  recognizes a Distinguished Alumni each year. 

So whether you are far or near, I invite you to participate in the AAC, so we can continue to grow together by preserving our traditions, staying connected and making a difference!
