Clinical Skills

Building foundations in Health Care and Nursing

Welcome to Clinical Skills

Description of facility

The Clinical Skills Lab (CSL) was re-designed in 1996 and is now a state-of-the-art learning center which provides the students the opportunity to develop psychomotor skills as well as critical thinking. The Director of the CSL along with the twelve Assistant Instructors works hand-in-hand with the nursing faculty to coordinate activities and support the curriculum.

The CSL has a variety of technology available to assist the students and faculty. On loan until August 2007, there is an IV simulator which allows the students to practice starting IV’s. There are many low fidelity models available such as male and female torsos for urinary and reproductive training, two torsos with lung and heart sounds for cardiovascular and respiratory training, IV arms to simulate starting IV’s and drawing blood, infant mannequins for pediatric training (some with heart and lung sounds), as well as an array of supplies to teach any nursing skill. The KCI Corporation was gracious enough to donate supplies and the use of the Wound Vac pumps on the days that wound care is taught to the students. The Synthes representative was able to provide external fixator models for demonstration purposes.
