Training for Health Care
The CSL has a variety of technologies available to assist students and faculty. There are many low fidelity models such as male and female torsos for urinary and reproductive training, two torsos with lung and heart sounds for cardiovascular and respiratory training, IV arms to practice venipuncture for IV starts and blood draws, and full size static mannequins. There are medium fidelity human simulators (infant and adult) that have heart, lung, and bowel sounds, and voice capability. High fidelity human simulators include SimMan and Noelle, which are housed in a specially designed simulation room.
The CSL has cooperative arrangements with the community to assist with learning new technology. On loan until August 2007 is an IV Simulator that allows students to practice starting IVs. The KCI Corporation was gracious enough to donate supplies and the use of the Wound Vac pumps on the days wound care is taught to the students. The Synthes representative has provided external fixator models for demonstration purposes.
| There is a 500 sq ft. Simulation Room. The Simulation Room had been the conference room until it was re-designed in Fall 2006 to house SimMan, Noelle, Vital Sim infant, an infant warmer, and other equipment needed to create realistic environments. The room has the technology for video streaming and A/V taping to monitor simulation scenarios with students. |
