COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course provides an opportunity for designated Student Research Scholars to share learning experiences and gain insights through discussion in a Research Scholar Seminar.

PREREQUISITES
  • Concurrent enrollment in NURE 3115 Applications of Research in Nursing: Mentored Research Scholars submit a complete, signed student/faculty mentor contract for student's Graduate Nursing Office file.
  • Receive acceptance of the plan for mentored conract for the semester.  Students are encouraged to engaged in scholars' program experience across more than one semester.
  • Must be in good standing in other courses.

Examine research issues with other student Research Scholars and faculty mentors.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION / GRADES
A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F = Below 60%
The pass/fail grading will be done by contract based on mutually agreed upon activities between the faculty and student with regular, meaningful participation and expectation for satisfactory performance.

Special Activities

Students are encourage to participate in local, regional, and/or national research conferences if possible.


SCHOLASTIC DISHONESTY
Students are expected to be above reproach in all scholastic activities. Students who engage in scholastic dishonesty are subject to disciplinary penalties, including the possibility of failure in the course and dismissal from the university. "Scholastic dishonesty includes but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, collusion, and submission for credit of any work or materials that are attributable in whole or in part to another person, taking an examination for another person, any act designed to give unfair advantage to a student or the attempt to commit such acts." Regents Rules and Regulations, Part One, Chapter VI, Section 3, Subsection 3.2, Subdivision 3.22.

CONTENT OUTLINE

To be determined by faculty and Student Research Scholar based on stage of engagement in the research process.

Content segments that are commonly covered each semester are: research process including protection of human subjects, research abstract development, research poster development and presentation, research career development, and research ethics.

Professionalism

  1. Discussion and processing of issues linked to the role of clinical nurse researcher.  Issues identified from the literature, from experiences with mentor, from experiences with others.  Examples include: presentation of self at professional meetings and conferences, ethical guidelines for acknowledging funding sources, colleagues, etc., negotiating collegial relationships.
  2. Maintenance of personal research portfolio

Scholarship

  1. Discussion and processing of issues linked to research.  Issues can be identified from the literature, from experiences with mentor, from experieces with others.
  2. Presentation of research posters and papers (to faculty memtors and peers and at conferences when opportunity arises).
