Purpose & Goals

The Center for Violence Prevention serves to facilitate the conduct of violence prevention related research by Health Science Center faculty and students. The Center for Violence Prevention provides support services, including public speaking, developing and critiquing manuscripts, peer review of grant proposals, and content experts with respect to any category of domestic violence. Additionally, consultation services are available for topic areas such as program evaluation, qualitative analysis, software packages for qualitative analysis, participatory action research, and community-campus partnership development.

The Center for Violence Prevention benefits The UTHSCSA and the School of Nursing in the following ways. The Center serves to attract and retain quality faculty and students through provision of an innovative Center, which recognizes and addresses violence as a public health issue. The Center provides faculty and students with the opportunity to participate in cutting edge, state- of -the- art violence related research, research and practice for the improvement of the citizens and communities of South Texas .

Current members of the Center include faculty from the UTHSCSA who represent various disciplines and specialties but who are dedicated to violence prevention.

Objectives


  • Increase the number of community providers with evidence-based violence prevention skills,
  • Strengthen the collaborative efforts in the community for violence prevention, and
  • Promote innovative methodologies for understanding and preventing violence.
