Welcome to the School of Nursing
he UT Health Science Center San Antonio School of Nursing is at the forefront of nursing
education. We lead excellence in nursing leadership through our innovative teaching, quality
research, compassionate care and community service for our South Texas community and the
world. As part of the only Tier 1 research university in South Texas and one of the major
academic health science centers in the nation, our school of nursing is the only school in this
region to offer doctorate nursing degrees. We are educating future nurse care providers, but
more importantly serving as the “leadership pipeline” for faculty, clinical leaders and specialists,
nurse practitioners and nurse scientists.
With the increasing shortage of well-trained nurses in Texas and across the country, our school is
committed to preparing nursing students to meet the challenges of today's complex health care
field. We offer the traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) to students and have
alternative pathways for Associate Degree RNs and second degree programs for students who
have completed a baccalaureate degree in another field. Combined with the expertise of
nationally recognized faculty and the opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration, our students
receive an education that prepares them to be nursing leaders.
Rich diversity in a student body of over 750 reflects our commitment to educate the next
generation of compassionate, culturally-proficient nursing healthcare professionals at all levels of
nursing education. The over 9,000 nursing graduates of The UT Health Science Center San
Antonio School of Nursing are shaping the healthcare practices of today and transforming the
future of nursing care for tomorrow.
